That is why we do not use a conventional copper or silver conductor, but Carbon Nanotube technology. The digital core consists of 120 CNT filament strands!, combined with our AirCore architecture and an additional carbon EMI/RF shield.

The result is a digital interlink designed entirely around signal integrity, low electrical loading and effective control of high-frequency interference.

Why Carbon Nanotube?

Carbon Nanotubes differ fundamentally from copper and silver. A traditional metal conductor consists of a crystalline metal structure. Even very high-grade copper and silver conductors are influenced by their internal material structure, crystal orientation, transition regions and manufacturing processes. OCC and monocrystalline copper are designed to greatly reduce the number of crystal boundaries, but ultimately remain bulk metals.

A Carbon Nanotube has a completely different geometry.

CNT consists of an extremely fine cylindrical carbon lattice with a highly ordered atomic structure. Within the nanotube, there are no conventional metallic grain boundaries such as those found in normal copper or silver wire. Its electrical properties are therefore determined not only by the material itself, but also by the exceptionally ordered geometry of the nanotube.

Not a Better Metal. A Different Class of Conductor.

This makes CNT particularly interesting to DFL for digital signal transmission. After all, an S/PDIF signal does not consist only of abstract ones and zeros. Fast electrical pulses travel through the cable, and their timing, edge shape and stability determine what ultimately reaches the digital receiver.

Important factors include:

electrical loading

dielectric properties

high-frequency interference

reflections

geometric stability

electromagnetic coupling

preservation of pulse and timing information

The CNT structure forms the foundation for a highly coherent and homogeneous signal path.

120 CNT Filament Strands

At the heart of the DFL AirCore Reference CNT are 120 parallel Carbon Nanotube filament strands. Instead of using one conventional metal wire, the digital signal is carried through a bundle of extremely fine CNT structures. This architecture combines the distinctive electrical properties of Carbon Nanotube technology with an exceptionally low conductor mass. For DFL, this combination is essential: not using as much material as possible, but placing as little material as possible in the signal path.

AirCore Architecture

An exceptional conductor deserves the most neutral possible environment. That is why the CNT core is housed within our AirCore architecture. The conductor is mechanically stabilized with natural silk and runs through a Teflon air tube, with air forming a major part of the dielectric. Air has a very low dielectric constant and stores very little electrical energy. This greatly reduces interaction between the conductor and the surrounding insulation material.

The Teflon AirCore construction is designed for:

low capacitive loading

minimal dielectric energy storage

low mechanical influence

preservation of fast signal transitions

maximum signal coherence

This provides the CNT signal core with the calmest possible electrical and mechanical environment.

Additional Carbon EMI/RF Shielding

The digital Reference version features an additional carbon EMI/RF shield surrounding the AirCore construction. This is an important difference compared with traditional metal shielding. Metal shielding primarily works by reflecting and conducting electromagnetic energy away. Carbon can additionally absorb and dissipate high-frequency energy. As a result, the shielding is not only intended to keep interference out, but also to create a quieter electromagnetic environment around the CNT core.

Two Functions

Protection from External Interference

The carbon shielding helps prevent external RF and EMI pollution from entering the sensitive signal path.

Examples include:

WiFi

mobile communication

digital power supplies

routers

computers

network equipment

switching power supplies

Absorption Around the Signal Core

Instead of merely reflecting high-frequency energy, the carbon layer helps absorb part of it. This reduces the possibility of RF energy within the cable structure coupling back toward the central signal conductor. For digital audio, this quieter electrical environment is particularly important.

Why This Matters for S/PDIF

A digital cable may carry digital information, but the electrical signal travelling through it remains fully analogue in nature. The DAC must determine the timing of digital transitions from fast electrical pulse edges. That is why a high-quality S/PDIF connection is about more than conductivity alone.

What matters most is: how accurately the original pulse shape and timing are preserved. RF interference, reflections, cable capacitance and electrical noise can all influence this process. For that reason, the DFL AirCore Reference CNT was not developed as a conventional analogue interlink fitted with digital connectors. The CNT core, teflon AirCore dielectric, silk mechanical construction and carbon shielding have been designed as one complete digital transmission system.

CNT + AirCore + Carbon Shield

The complete architecture can be summarized in three layers:

CNT for Transport

120 Carbon Nanotube filament strands form the central digital signal path.

AirCore for Isolation

Air forms the primary dielectric surrounding the signal core and minimizes electrical energy storage.

Carbon for Absorption

The external carbon layer helps absorb EMI and RF energy and keeps the electromagnetic environment around the CNT core as quiet as possible.

Three different technologies with one common goal: maximum digital signal integrity.

Listening Experience

A digital cable should not add a sonic character of its own. Our objective is therefore not to make the presentation brighter, warmer or more pronounced. The DFL AirCore Reference CNT is designed to interfere as little as possible between digital source and DAC.

In a transparent audio system, this may be perceived as:

a quieter and deeper black background

more precise instrument placement

greater spatial layering

natural microdynamics

fast and clearly defined transients

improved focus without artificial sharpness

greater calm without loss of energy

preservation of subtle spatial information

greater conviction and power in the music

Not because the cable deliberately adds a particular sonic character, but because the digital connection is kept as clean as possible.

AECO RCA Connectors

The DFL AirCore Reference CNT is terminated with high-quality AECO RCA connectors. The contact parts are made from tellurium copper and feature a very thick pure silver plating, without a nickel underlayer. The low-mass construction minimizes the amount of metal in the signal path and provides extremely low contact resistance.

Connector Specifications

Tellurium copper

Pure silver plating

Extra-thick 120 μ” silver layer

Nickel-free

Low-mass construction

Contact resistance < 0.3 mΩ

Cable and connector therefore function as one coherent system.

Specifications

Model
DFL AirCore Reference CNT Carbon Nanotube Digital S/PDIF Interlink

Length
75 cm

Other lengths available on request.

Signal Conductor
120 Carbon Nanotube filament strands

Conductor Technology
Non-metallic CNT signal transmission

Construction
DFL AirCore Architecture

Dielectric
Air / Teflon AirTube

Mechanical Stabilization
Silk

EMI/RF Shielding
Additional carbon absorptive shielding

Connectors
AECO RCA

Contact Material
Tellurium copper

Plating
Extra-thick 120 μ” pure silver plating

Nickel Layer
None

Contact Resistance
< 0.3 mΩ

Outer Sleeve
Mechanically damped outer sleeve designed to reduce vibration and microphonic influence

A Different Approach to Digital

Copper became purer.
Silver became more refined.
OCC reduced the number of crystal boundaries.

Carbon Nanotube takes a different path.

Not another refinement of conventional metal, but a completely different conductor architecture based on an atomically ordered carbon structure.

CNT for transport.
AirCore for isolation.
Carbon for absorption.

DFL AirCore Reference CNT

Digital signal integrity without compromise.

[57,124

post-3454","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-cables-en","product_cat-digital","first","instock","featured","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple
["GET
